Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1

What's new in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1? Well, there's a new kernel, based on the stable Linux kernel 3.2.6, which enables RC6 by default for Sandy Bridge systems, allowing GPUs to enter into a very low power consumption state.

Mozilla Firefox 11.0 is on board, bringing you a complete web browsing experience, alongside the Mozilla Thunderbird 11.0 email client and the final version of LibreOffice 3.5.0 office suite.

The Unity interface gets improved once again in this release, bringing a kameleonic Ubuntu button that changes its color depending on your wallpaper.

Support for ClickPad devices has been added in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1, and language support for newly installed packages via Ubuntu Software Center are now automatically installed.

The system sound preferences dialog has been revamped and it looks like in the image below...
 
The Privacy settings entry has been added in the Control Panel of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1, allowing users to erase every piece of history from your system.

Last but not least, the controversial HUD (Head-Up Display) has been added in this Beta release, allowing users to interact with application's menus by pressing the ALT key.

Automatic Apport, the crash reporting tool has been redesigned to be more user frendly, and it looks like in the image below...

What's new in Kubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1? Well, the first Beta version of Kubuntu 12.04 LTS is build on top of the newly released KDE Software Compilation 4.8.0 and has LightDM as the default login manager. Oxygen-GTK3, the new Calligra office suite, and Owncloud are also available.

What's new in Xubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1? Well, the first Beta version of Xubuntu 12.04 LTS is still built on top of the beautiful Xfce 4.8 desktop environment and Alacarte no longer installs various GNOME packages and will display all Xfce-related menu items.

Also, some keyboard shortcuts were added and other replaced, and a new wallpaper has been added.

What's new in Lubuntu 12.04 LTS Beta 1? Well, the first Beta version of Lubuntu 12.04 LTS also has LightDM as the default login manager, with the default GTK greeter.
 
On April 26th, 2012, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) will become the sixteenth release of the Ubuntu operating system. See you again in three weeks (March 22nd), for the second Beta version of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin).
